This Week : Why you need to craft your own unique reading startegy!
If you identify yourself as a reader, you would agree with the idea that your approach to books hasn’t been same throughout,
The kind of books you pick, the time you are able to give to reading varies vastly through stages and phases of life.
As a school girl, my approach was to hide my Enid Blyton books in my physics text book. I found more joy in corridor’s St. Clare’s corridors than in laws of physics.
Fast Forward today, as a new mom I am trying to hold on to my routine of reading and have been picking books which are easier, simpler, shorter reads:)
In between, there were phases when I wasn’t reading at all (thanks to late night reading getting replaced by social medias scrolling) and maybe just reading news snippets at best and consuming social media content.
However, at different times there can be different reasons to read (or not read) which can impact your choice of books and it’s important to know those reasons and have your strategy tailored to your personal goals, preferences and state of mind.
Understanding why you’re reading at different times can help you choose books that not only fit your schedule but also resonate with your current state of mind and life goals.
Here’s how to tailor your reading strategy based on your reasons for reading:
Reading to Stay Informed:
Focus: News articles, non-fiction books on current affairs, and insightful blogs.
Approach: Allocate specific times in your day for reading news or articles. Subscribe to reliable sources and perhaps use summary services for quick overviews.
Reading for Entertainment:
Focus: Fiction, graphic novels, light-hearted books, and genres you enjoy most.
Approach: Keep a mix of easy, enjoyable reads at hand for when you need a mental break. Consider audiobooks for when you’re multitasking or have a busy schedule.
Reading for Personal Growth:
Focus: Self-help books, biographies, and books on personal development or skills.
Approach: Choose books that address areas you want to grow in. Set realistic goals and maybe integrate reading into your daily routine, like a chapter a day.
Reading for Professional Development:
Focus: Industry-specific books, business literature, and educational texts.
Approach: Incorporate reading into your professional development plan. Join a book club or reading group within your field to discuss and gain deeper insights.
Reading for Relaxation:
Focus: Comfort reads, books with happy endings, or genres that you find soothing.
Approach: Create a cozy reading nook and make reading a part of your unwinding routine. Don’t pressure yourself with deadlines or challenging book/
As life stages change, so do our reading habits. Embrace this fluidity and allow your reading to be a source of joy, learning, and relaxation, adapting to your needs and circumstances.
Whatever may be the purpose, reading is beautiful in all its forms and is a versatile and enriching experience.
As our lives evolve, so do our reading habits, reflecting our changing interests and priorities. Embrace this journey and let your reading be a continuous source of joy, knowledge, and tranquility.
Happy Reading! 📚✨
Warmly,
Mridul
